He completed his primary, secondary and high school education in Malatya. Following his specialization in General Surgery and Gastrointestinal Surgery, he received training in liver transplantation since 1998. In 2002, he started a deceased donor liver transplant program in Malatya İnönü University Faculty of Medicine Turgut Özal Medical Center. Due to a lack of deceased donor donation in Turkey, he has started the live donor liver transplant pro-gram at the same center in 2005. In Turkey and Europe since 2008 Inonu University Liver Transplantation Institute is center performing most liver transplants. He founded the Liver Transplantation Institute in 2011 and is still the director of this institution. This institute is the world's largest organ-specific transplantation center. He trained surgeons from many countries of the world (Germany, Poland, Russia, Great Britain, Belgium, Jordan, Azerbai-jan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Nigeria, Kenya, and etc.) on live donor liver transplantation. Annually, 300 liver transplantations are performed in the institute and more than 3200 liver transplantations have been performed since the beginning of the transplant program in 2002. More than % 90 of these transplantations are live donor liver transplantations. In July 2018, he and his team performed 3 simultaneous LDLTs on the same day. In order for a liver transplant center to achieve these, it must have enough, highly experienced surgical and anesthesia teams, technical equipments, physical conditions including the operating room and intensive care units. Inonu University Liver Transplantation Institute physically includes 12 operating theatres, 3 intensive care units (each with a capacity of 12 patients) and 116 patient beds and research laboratories. In this institute, there are 25 surgeons, 8 anesthe-siologists, 4 intensive care specialists, 3 radiologists, 3 hepatologists and 3 infectious dis-ease specialists who are specialized in liver transplantation. These experiences and possi-bilities showed that the team could do 5 simultaneous LDLTs. In June 2019, they per-formed 5 simultaneous LDLTs including one pediatric and 4 adult patients. All operations started at 8 a.m an ended at 6:30 p.m. Donors and recipients were discharged without any problem on the 20 th postoperative day at the latest. Prof Yilmaz achieved a historic suc-cess with these operations. Professor Yılmaz has 292 scientific articles published in SCI-INDEX journals and has an H index of 24. Prof Yilmaz is currently running the world's largest liver transplant program with a 25-collaques transplant surgery group and 20 faculty mem-bers from other related branches.
